THE Mayo Business Awards for 2008 were launched by the Mayo Chambers of Commerce last night (Monday) in the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris – and the sixth annual renewal promises to be the biggest and best yet.
The night – which is now regarded as the highlight of the Mayo business year – will take place in the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris on Friday, November 21, with Bord Gáis now on board as overall sponsor.
“We are delighted to welcome Bord Gáis Networks as the overall sponsor of the awards this year and hope they prove to be bigger and better than ever,” said Sandra Cribben, CEO of Ballina Chamber, speaking at the launch.
“Later this week the seven Chambers of Commerce in Mayo – located in Ballina, Ballyhaunis, Castlebar, Claremorris, Erris, Swinford and Westport – will be posting out the specially-commissioned awards brochure to all businesses on their databases. Any business which does not receive a brochure in the next week should contact their local chamber for a copy and an entry form. The awards are open to any business located in Mayo and the good news is that there is no entry fee.”
Mr Mark Holohan, Connections Sales Manager with Bord Gáis Networks, said the company were delighted to sponsor the awards.
“With a number of towns in Mayo connected to the natural gas network, and pipeline construction ongoing in the remaining towns, Bord Gáis is pleased to offer natural gas as an alternative fuel to businesses and householders in Mayo, providing financial savings and reduced CO2 emissions. We have been working closely with the business community in Mayo in conjunction with the local Chambers of Commerce and very much look forward to continuing this work in the future.”
Concluding the launch Sandra Cribben, on behalf of the Mayo Chambers, said she would like to thank all our sponsors for their continued financial support and commitment.
Mr John Feerick, General Manager with The Mayo News, said the newspaper was delighted to once again be associated with the awards.
“From the outset, The Mayo News recognised the sustainability of the business awards scheme and we have been involved in all six years of the event. The business community at large has really embraced the concept and I’m sure there will be businesses from the four corners of the county entering to win one of the ten categories.”
Closing date for receipt of entries is Friday, September 26. All businesses located in Mayo no matter how big or small are encouraged to enter and external adjudicators will be employed to carry out the judging in all award categories. For entry forms or more information please contact 096 72800.
