FOOTBALL Keith Waldron and Harry Murphy are part of the London squad.
Mayo duo face Sligo
Mike Finnerty
MAYO will have two representatives in the London senior football squad that take on Sligo in the Connacht senior football championship next Sunday in Ruislip. Kevin Waldron from Ballyhaunis and Harry Murphy from Ballinrobe are both included in Noel Dunning’s London panel which will be bidding to dethrone the reigning Connacht champions. Waldron (32) is one of the veterans in the London team and has been part and parcel of their plans since 2001. However, Murphy (27) was only added to the London panel last month having transferred from Ballinrobe to Fulham Irish a few weeks earlier. A hamstring injury threatens to keep him sidelined next Sunday but he intends to enjoy the experience nonetheless. “I’ve really enjoyed the last few weeks,” he told The Mayo News. “Things have happened so fast that it’s been hard to take it all in but I’m really looking forward to next weekend. It looks like my hamstring is not going to recover in time but we’ll just have to wait and see.” Murphy has been based in London since January, 2007 but only played his first game with Fulham Irish last month. An eye-catching display then saw him catapulted into the London set-up as Noel Dunning tried to shake things up following a very disappointing National League campaign. “There were four or five of us brought in after the league ended and it will be a very different team that lines out next Sunday. We’ve been training hard for the last month and also flew back to Ireland for challenge matches against Carlow and Roscommon which went fairly well,” said Murphy. London endured a miserable National League, losing all eight games they played. They are priced at 16/1 to beat Sligo next weekend.
