SENATE BOUND Green Party’s Pippa Hackett.

MAYO native Pippa Hackett is the odds-on favourite to secure the vacant seat in Seanad Éireann. She is the sole nominee for the position and nominations close on Friday.
The Ballindine native is the Green Party spokesperson on Agriculture and Food, Forestry, Animal Welfare and Heritage and has already been selected as their candidate in the Laois-Offaly constituency for the next General Election. She became the first Green Party councillor on Offaly County Council when she won a seat in the Edenderry region last May.
Should Pippa, a past pupil of Ballindine NS and Mount St Michael Secondary School in Claremorris, and who now resides in Geashill, Co Offaly, be declared a senator in the days ahead, it is likely that she will serve for just a few months in the Seanad until the declaration of the General Election which is expected in the first half of 2020.
