A hotel host from Castlebar went on Winning Streak last Saturday and won prizes totalling €40,000 on the National Lottery game show on RTÉ One.
Sheila Leneghan from the county town was delighted with her winnings from the show. She won €37,000 in cash and a holiday to Madiera in Portugal worth €3,000.
Last Saturday, Sheila had just finished a super busy day at work in Hotel Westport when she made herself a cup of tea and sat down to watch Winning Streak, as she had sent in a three- star scratch card just days earlier. However, the weariness was getting the better of her and she began to doze off - but awoke with a start when she heard her own name being called out to appear on next week’s show.
She initially refused to believe her ears and waited until the end of the show before she allowed herself to believe the good news – despite her phone ringing off the hook while the show was still on.
This was Sheila’s second appearance on a National Lottery game show as eleven years ago she sat in the audience as her niece Breege Salmon won a cool €36,000 on The Big Money Game, then presented by Laura Woods. Breege made a comeback to the RTÉ studio and was cheering her aunt on from the audience.
Sheila works in the hospitality industry as a host at Hotel Westport, where she has worked since 1995. As well as many other things, she is a host for the over 50s guests at the hotel and looks after entertaining and feeding guests, and everything in between. Despite it being a busy role, she says she loves her job and there was a big contingent of colleagues in the audience cheering her on this weekend – as well as a bigger group who were watching from the hotel too.
Sheila has two sons, Patrick and Daniel who were also in the audience cheering her on while her daughter, Shona watched on the RTÉ Player from her home in Harrow in London with her partner Lucas and Sheila’s granddaughter – four-year-old Aaliyah. Sheila also has two brothers John and Patrick, and three sisters – Helen, Nonie and Beatrice. Sheila has no idea what to do with her winnings but will take her time to decide and will certainly share with her family.
