Westport Utd weigh up their options

WESTPORT United’s official appeal against the FAI Junior Council’s decision to dismiss their ‘protest’ in their FAI Junior Cup saga was dismissed by the FAI’s Disciplinary and Control Unit at a hearing in Abbottstown last Wednesday.
However, The Mayo News understands that the Westport United Executive Committee met last night (Monday) to consider their position on whether or not to take the decision to Arbitration.
The Mayo News has learned that Westport United must lodge the sum of €5,000 to the FAI by Wednesday if they are going to take the decision further.
Westport United had launched an official appeal against the FAI Junior Council’s decision to dismiss their ‘protest’ regarding the ineligibility of an Aisling-Annacotty player in their March 10 FAI Junior Cup quarter-final defeat last week.
This comes after it emerged that Westport United had lodged an official ‘protest’ with the FAI against the Limerick outfit over fielding an alleged ineligible player a week after their clash at United Park, but it was dismissed at a hearing in Abbottstown on March 21.
Aisling Annacotty, who play in the Limerick District League, beat Westport United 2-1 after extra-time in Westport last month.
However, if Westport United were to be successful with this appeal, they could be reinstated back into the competition. The FAI Junior Cup Final is due to be played on Saturday, May 11.
The club are expected to issue a statement regarding their position in the next 24 hours.
