Mayo County Council will be developing an e-parking app which will allow motorists to pay for parking using an app on their smartphone.
A press release issued yesterday by Mayo County Council stated that the new parking plans for Westport will be rolled out ‘over the early days of April’.
There will be no pay and display machines in Westport town centre, instead drivers will be asked to purchase a ‘scratch and display’ parking disc from participating businesses and place it on the dashboard of their car.
Retailers in Westport recently expressed their concern at the implementation of the new parking charges with some stating that they would not be in favour of stocking the parking discs.
Mayo County Council said a list of participating businesses will be available to view on their website and discs will also be available for purchase in bulk at Westport Civic Offices. They will also be rolling out a cashless parking solution in the coming weeks with a new app.

The implementation of parking charges did not come up for discussion at yesterday’s (Monday) meeting of the West Mayo Municipal District.
