Fishing on the River Deel will be prohibited from September to May after a new by-law was signed.
New by-laws for River Deel
FISHING on the River Deel will be prohibited from September 1 until May 31 after the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Eamon Ryan TD signed a new by-law restricting fishing on the river in order to conserve fish stocks. The by-law restricts the angling for all types of fish on the River Deel to the months of June, ,July and August and prohibits the use of prawn and shrimp for salmon angling. The new by-law was introduced at the request of the North Western Regional Fisheries Board following concern about extensive exploitation of salmon on the Deel and the declining numbers of spawning salmon. The complete closure of the River Deel was considered by the NWRFB but it was felt the complete closure would be unfair to local anglers and children who use the river. It was agreed that fishing of all types of fish on the river would be prohibited from September of each year until the following May. The method of using prawn and shrimp for bait would also be prohibited
