An Indian restaurant in Castlebar and another in Kiltimagh were served with closure orders in Mayo in November

TWO Indian restaurants in Mayo were among 13 food businesses in Ireland which were served with closure orders in November.
The Dawat Indian Restaurant, Main Street, Castlebar and Original Curry House, Main Street, Kiltimagh were both issued with closure orders under the Official Control of Foodstuffs Regulations.
The Original Curry House in Kitimagh was served with the closure notice after inspectors discovered a number of faults including inadequate facilities for the cleaning and disinfecting of equipment and for the effective cleaning of the premises.
Inspectors to the The Dawat Indian Restaurant in Castlebar found a disused ten litre paint bucket being used for the storage of food stuffs and there was insufficient evidence available to confirm that all staff present are suitably trained in food hygiene safety matters.
Commenting on the closures, Dr Pamela Byrne, Chief Executive, FSAI said that food businesses must operate strict food safety procedures at all times and that they need to be extra vigilant during this busy time of year.
“Fourteen Enforcement Orders in one month is an unacceptable number. With the busy Christmas period upon us, food businesses must be especially vigilant to ensure compliance with the law. Special attention should be given to food safety training for both full and part-time staff to cope with any extra demand,” she said.
