EARLY birds will get a chance to not only to catch the worm, but to catch Mass this Easter Sunday in Murrisk.
Dawn Mass will be celebrated at Murrisk Abbey to raise much-needed funds for the restoration of St Mary’s Church roof in Westport.
A funding committee for the restoration has been put in place and the Dawn Mass is the first of many fundraising events to take place.
Speaking to The Mayo News, Eoin Cunningham of the fundraising committee said there is ‘something for everyone’ at this event.
“There is a bit of a Darkness into Light feel about it, and whether you’re spiritual or religious it will be a nice morning set against the backdrop of Croagh Patrick,” said Mr Cunningham.
Organisers are hoping between 600 and 800 people will attend the 7am Mass.
“It will be a great way to start Easter Sunday and people can go on then and climb Croagh Patrick,” he added.
There will be hot drinks and Ketterick’s Butchers have kindly donated a catering unit for the morning and breakfast rolls will be available.
Fundraising will be donation based.
“Everything that goes in the bucket will be going towards St Mary’s Church. Everyone’s talking about the Mass, now we just need good weather and a good crowd,” he concluded.
