Foul play not suspected in Westport death

Gardaí do not suspect foul play was involved in the death of man found in Westport early this morning

Gardaí are currently awaiting the results of a postmortem to determine the cause of death of a man found dead in Westport but do not suspect foul play.
The body of the 48-year-old man was discovered by a member of the public at 6.15am on Friday morning in the Tubberhill area of the town. The area in question was sealed off and traffic was diverted. The scene was examined by garda forensic teams and the deceased's body was later removed to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar for a postmortem.
A Garda spokesperson said they are awaiting the results of the postmortem to determine the cause of death and what direction the investigation will proceed. However, their initial investigation suggests that there were nothing suspicious about the death.
The area has been reopened today following a full examination and gardaí are currently looking at CCTV of the area to determine the deceased man’s last movements.
Gardaí are not releasing the identity of the deceased man until his family have been notified. It is understood he was a 48-year-old Westport single man who was the father of a teenage daughter.
