A man is recovering after losing his arm in a workplace accident in Ballinrobe last Thursday
A 60-year-old man is recovering from a workplace accident in which he lost his arm last Thursday.
The man was working on an assembly line at McHale Engineering, Ballinrobe, when the accident occurred.
He was airlifted from nearby by an Irish Air Corps helicopter to University College Hospital, Galway where he was treated for his serious, but not life threatening injuries.
A spokesperson from the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) confirmed to The Mayo News that a male was ‘badly injured’ and that an inspector from the HSA was attending the scene on Thursday last to carry out an investigation.
Gardaí and two ambulances attended at the scene at approximately 12 noon following the accident.
McHale’s have been manufacturing agricultural equipment for over 30 years, and export to approximately 40 countries, including Canada, USA, Korea, Australia and New Zealand. It was established by brothers Padraic and Martin McHale and employs a large number of people in south Mayo and wider Mayo/Galway region.
