Last meeting of successful year this Thursday
Last meeting of the year this Thursday
THE curtain falls on another hugely successful year at Ballinrobe Racecourse this Thursday, September 21, when an eight race all National Hunt card gets underway at 2.15pm.
The 2017 season saw huge crowds attend the eight days of racing that have already taken place and Racecourse Manager John Flannelly declared himself ‘delighted’ with how the year panned out.
“We were particularly fortunate this year as the weather was extremely kind to us and we had very large crowds at all our meetings. The year couldn’t have gone any better,” said John, who was pleased to find out last week from Horseracing Ireland (HRI) that Mayo’s only racecourse has been allocated ten meetings for the 2018 season.
“It’s great that we have received ten meeting for next year and punters should also note that we have two Friday meetings. We start the season with a Friday evening meeting on April 13 and finish it with a Friday evening meeting on September 21, along with our usually eight meetings throughout the summer months.”
John added that work will be taking place at the track throughout the winter with the main development taking place at the entrance to the course.
“We are planning a major development at the road entrance to the course which will include the building of a proper Grand Entrance, and that will be ready before the first meeting of the year on April 13,” added John.
