GARDAÍ investigating the shooting of a firearm at a family home in Ballinrobe in the early hours of yesterday morning say there is no obvious motive behind the attack.
The incident occurred at approximately 1.50am on Monday, July 17 when a firearm, believed to have been a shotgun, was discharged at the front door of a house at Abbey View, Ballinrobe.
A number of people were in the house at the time but nobody was injured in the incident.
The Garda Armed Support Unit responded to the shooting and the scene was later technically examined by the Gardaí. House-to-house enquiries also took place in the locality on Monday afternoon.
No arrest has yet been made and Gardaí in Claremorris and Ballinrobe are currently investigating the motive of the shooting.
“There is no obvious motive at the moment,” confirmed a garda spokesperson.
“We are keeping an open mind and looking at all aspects of the investigation. No arrests have been made but we are interviewing a number of people.”
The family who live in the house are not originally from the locality but have lived in Ballinrobe for a considerable period of time.
One line of inquiry the Gardaí are investigating is one of mistaken identity that the house which was shot at was not the main target.
The Abbey View estate is located off the Cloongowla Road close to the Tesco Supermarket on the Claremorris Road.
Anyone with any information or who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the locality to contact Claremorris Garda Station on 094 937280.
