NEIGHBOURS and friends of a family whose home was destroyed in a fire near Kiltimagh on May 5 are rallying around and have launched a special fund to assist the family in the aftermath of the ordeal. The ‘Brennan Family Recovery Fund’ has been established to help the family as they recover from this disaster.
Bernice and Noel Brennan and their three children could only watch in shock and disbelief as the fire took a grip on the roof of their home and the blaze was out of control in minutes. The house was located in Derrinalecka, about two miles from the town.
Airborne embers from the raging bog fire nearby were carried by the gusting east wind and landed on the thatched roof of their two storey home.
A meeting was called in Kiltimagh and plans were put in place to launch the Recovery Fund. An account has been set-up in the Kiltimagh Credit Union and the early response has been positive and encouraging as the community rallies to the cause.
There are three ways that people can lend support. They can call in to Kiltimagh Credit Union and make a donation to The Brennan Family Recovery Fund. They can contribute by making a cheque payable to the Fund and posting it to Kiltimagh Credit Union, Main Street, Kiltimagh.
The third option is to transfer money electronically via their own on-line banking using the account details below: Account Name: The Brennan Family Recovery Fund; BIC: KDCUIE21XXX; IBAN:  IE27KDCU99217690581139.
Tom Byrne and Maggie Ruane Finn from the organising committee say the goodwill of the Kiltimagh community has been manifesting itself in a special way in recent days.
“We have a very good community spirit in Kiltimagh and we will do all we can to support the Brennan family as they recover from this major setback,” stated Tom Byrne.
