TO win one All-Ireland title is an impressive feat in itself, but Claremorris No Name Club went one better recently by bringing home two from the No Name Super-Talent National Finals held in the Lime Tree Theatre, Limerick.
Claremorris, who beat off stiff competition from No Name Clubs all across the country, scooped the titles in the ‘Group Singers’ category, as well as the coveted ‘Cameo’ section for their 15 minute drama, song, dance and comedy sketch – written and produced by the club themselves.
The ‘Cameo’ section victory bares huge significance for the club as it reflects the ideas, inspiration and participation of all club members. There has been monumental effort put in by all in the last ten weeks of preparation at the Dalton Inn Hotel, Claremorris, under the watchful eye of adult leader, Michael Guilfoyle, who mentored and coached the group in the right direction.
‘Great group’
Speaking to The Mayo News, Mr Guilfoyle praised the group for their efforts in the last ten weeks and highlighted how it came as a bit of a shock to them all.
“They are a great group and I was delighted to be involved with them,” he said. “We went to Limerick hoping to win something for the club, but to come away with two All-Ireland titles is beyond belief.”
Club members Erika Overlingaite, Ava Fitzpatrick, Kayleen Coen, Eva Finn and Megan Tierney made up the victorious singing group whilst the club’s ‘Group Dance’ also came second in their category.
Claremorris No Name club has been running in the town since 2000, and it currently has 14 adult members along with 110 members.
Designated Program Officer with No Name, Con Nolan, is credited for ensuring Claremorris’ participation in the national competitions and said: “This is fitting reward for everyone after all the work and commitment everybody made.”
Members of the ‘Cameo’ group included Oisin Brennan, Muireann Brady, Dylan Cleary, Kelly Butler, Ailish Carter, Dean Guilfoyle, Kayleen Coen, Evan Hughes, Alisha Conway, SeΡn Joyce, Lianne Daly, Darragh Kennedy, Aoife Horkan, Tadhg Middleton, Ailis Merrick, Mark Walsh, Eimear Diskin, Harry Delaney, Eva Finn, Niamh Gildea, Clodagh Healy, Rachel Hession, Siobhan Mooney, Erika Overlingaite, Megan Tierney, Emma Trench and Ava Fitzpatrick.
