Local food producer Cabots of Westport has won a much-coveted slot at the Taste of Dublin expo in Dublin’s Iveagh Gardens from June 15 to 18. The company, which is owned and run by Mayo News food contributor Redmond Cabot, produces a range of hand-prepared and preservative-free hummus, sauces, pâtés and dips.
Cabots of Westport is one of only four Irish businesses chosen by Bank of Ireland to exhibit their wares on ‘Producers Row at Taste of Dublin’, where they will get the chance to showcase their produce to over 34,000 food enthusiasts alongside internationally known brands.
The four businesses will also have the opportunity to sell their products at the event, and they will receive promotion through Bank of Ireland’s online channels.
Speaking to The Mayo News, Cabot said he was delighted to have won a place at the event. “Everyone here at Cabots is absolutely honoured and delighted to have won this competition and to represent Westport and the west of Ireland at the Taste of Dublin. Thank you to all our supporters; we will not let you down.”
Commenting on his company’s ethos, Cabot explained: “We make everything ourselves, we will always be artisan and homemade. We steadfastly believe that only fresh and natural produce gives our bodies and minds the essential nutrients and building blocks they need for a healthy existence.”
The other three food producers chosen are Flavour Safari, which makes African-inspired sauces in Laois; Mama Nagi’s, which produces authentic Indian chilli pastes in Dublin; and O’Brien’s Farmhouse Cheese, an Irish cheese producer based in Limerick.
Declan Galvin, Head of SME at Bank of Ireland commented: “Big congratulations to Flavour Safari, Cabots of Westport, Mama Nagi’s and O’Brien’s Farmhouse Cheese for winning this year’s competition. I have no doubt that these four businesses will benefit hugely … We received a huge amount of entries this year, showcasing the wonderful variety of food and beverage businesses operating around the country.”
