A Breaffy man was killed in a car accident outside Newport in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Timothy Lyons Junior (36) was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at Kilbride on the main N59 Westport to Newport road.
Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene of the single vehicle collision at 4.20am. It is their understanding that the car driven by Mr Lyons left the road and struck a wooden fence.
The road was closed for a time while a forensic examination of the scene took place.
Tim is the eldest of three sons of Timothy and Marian Lyons of Kilmacrade, Breaffy, located between the villages of Breaffy and Manulla. Timothy is mourned also by his younger brothers Thomas and Anthony, uncles, aunt, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends.
He was a former student of Manulla NS and St Gerald’s College, Castlebar.
His remains are reposing at Kilcoyne’s Funeral Home, Castlebar on Tuesday evening from 5pm to 7.30pm. His Funeral Mass will take place in St Aloysius’s Church, Breaffy at 11am on Wednesday with burial afterwards in Keelogues Cemetery.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to contact Westport Garda Station on 098 50237 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111. The fatal accident is the second death on Mayo roads this year.
