Council decision on Ballinrobe hotel imminent

Council to confirm later this week whether it will give planning permission for a new hotel in Ballinrobe town centre

MAYO County Council is set to confirm later this week whether it will give planning permission for a new hotel in the centre of Ballinrobe. It is nine months since Nebor Ltd, a Mayo company,  submitted plans to develop historic Cranmore House – a listed building which is now derelict –  into a luxury hotel. The development will comprise a 46-bedroom hotel, with function rooms, bars, a restaurant, a health suite with gym and swimming pool and a basement car park.
The ambitious plan also includes retail spaces and eight residential apartments, as well as plans to construct apartments for the elderly and townhouses.  
A decision was due on the application late last year but the local authority instead sought further information on the location of a proposed mini-roundabout and other safety measures regarding road entrances.
Meanwhile, the community, sporting and business sectors in the south Mayo town are very much in favour of the development as they say it would reinvigorate the town on many levels.
