A man has been charged with criminal damage after breaking a window of An Taoiseach Enda Kenny’s constituency office in Castlebar.
Liam Heffernan (32) of Kilnageer, Belcarra, Castlebar is charged with criminal damage and two breaches of the Public Order Act at Tucker Street, Castlebar, in the early hours of Sunday, February 26, last.
He appeared before Castlebar District Court last Wednesday, where the court was told the value of the damage was approximately €300. Inspector Gary Walsh told the court that, after being cautioned on the night, Mr Heffernan’s reply was ‘What you need to realise [is] people being our leaders do so for their own profit’.
In court, Mr Heffernan, who was representing himself, was asked if he would be pleading guilty. Mr Heffernan replied that it is ‘not that black and white’.
He was remanded on continuing bail to appear before Castlebar District Court on May 3.
