A THIRTY-six-year-old man appeared before Castlebar District Court charged with the possession of child pornography

A THIRTY-six-year-old man appeared before last week’s sitting of Castlebar District Court charged with the possession of child pornography.
Tomas Vilimas is accused of being in possession of child pornography alleged to have been contained on the hard drive of a computer. The material was discovered on a movie file following the search of a property in Castlebar on May 3, 2012.
The Lithuanian national is currently serving a prison sentence and was brought to Castlebar District Court in order to be served with the book of evidence.
Sergeant Hugh O’Donnell told Judge Mary Devins he served the defendant with the book of evidence and State Solicitor, Vincent Deane applied for Mr Vilimas to be sent forward for trial at the next sittings of Castlebar Circuit Criminal Court on January 31, 2017.
Mr Thomas Walsh, solicitor for the defendant applied for bail for his defendant but added that it would not be taken up, as Mr Vilimas was currently serving a sentence. Mr Deane said the prosecution had no objection to bail on the condition that Mr Vilimas surrender his passport and not apply for any other travel documents.
Judge Devins granted bail on the defendant’s own bond of €500 and legal aid was granted to Mr Walsh.
