Inspirational Woman Award nominees sought

Nominations for the Mayo Association Dublin’s 2017 awards are now being accepted. The details were announced at the association’s Annual Business Lunch held on Friday last, November 4.
The awards, which acknowledge those working behind the scenes within communities, will be held at a gala dinner on February 10 in the Ballsbridge Hotel, Dublin.
The Virginia Gallagher Mayo Person of the Year Award has been awarded to a host of well-known Mayo people over the years. The Mayo Person of the Year will have made an exceptional contribution to the county or its people. The winner must be born in Mayo, be of Mayo parentage or have lived in Mayo for not less than seven years.
The Meitheal of the Year Award will be presented to a voluntary group or organisation based in Mayo, the majority of the membership of which were born in Mayo or are of Mayo parentage and who have achieved distinction or contributed to the county or its people.

New award
This year, a new award, the Young Mayo Person of the Year Award, will be presented to a young person under the age of 25, who lives in Mayo or was born or lived for in Mayo for seven years.  The new award will recognise ‘any endeavour by a young person under 25 which has provided significant social, community, leadership or economic benefit to society, and which reflects positively on Mayo’.  The award is designed to recognise the positive influence young people can have on their peers and on the lives of others.
Deadline for submissions for all the awards is Friday, December 9. The winners will be announced in mid-January 2017.
