A man has been charged with dangerous driving causing death after a road accident near Ballina last May.
Declan Moran (38) of Carrentrilla, Ballina, appeared before Westport District Court, sitting in Castlebar, this morning (Thursday).
The court was told he was arrested and charged earlier this morning. Mr Moran is charged with dangerous driving causing death and also charged over failing to remain at the scene of the accident.
The accident took place on the afternoon of Sunday, May 8, 2016, at Ballinahaglish, Ballina, on the N26 Ballina to Foxford road.
Martin (Morch) Wynne, a male motorcyclist from Crossmolina, was killed in the accident.
Garda Thomasina McHale gave evidence of arresting and charging Moran. He was remanded on bail on conditions, including that he sign on once a week and surrender his passport.
Defending solicitor Peter Loftus told the court his client has no issue with the State being given an extension of time for the preparation of the book of evidence.
The case was adjourned to January 10 for service of the book of evidence.
