Guinness World Record tea towel for Mayo Roscommon Hospice

Poplar Linens Trading in Westport recently undertook a challenge to create the largest tea towel as part of a fundraising drive in aid of Mayo Roscommon Hospice Palliative Care Services.  
Speaking at the launch, Mr Sean Walsh, MD of Poplar Linen Trading, and also a member of the Board of the Mayo Roscommon Hospice, explained that his late father (and founder of Poplar Lines) Liam Walsh set up the company over 50 years ago.
“I have been either talking about or looking at tea towels for over 30 years so to me it was an obvious choice when we decided to launch our fundraiser,” said Sean
Cynthia Clampett, CEO of Mayo Roscommon Hospice, said they were ‘absolutely delighted’ to be part of this exciting venture with Sean and all at Poplar Linens.  
“It’s a new and novel way of getting the Hospice/Palliative Care brand across to people and a great way of raising much needed funds for the service.  Our sincere thanks also to chef Neven Maguire for his recipe which we have on the tea towel, we have all baked the bread and it truly delicious,” said Cynthia.

Obstacle
Poplar Linens commissioned their best factory to produce this tea towel. Technically no one machine could make this it as it measures 49 foot x 34 foot (15 metres x 10.5 metres) but with specialist machinery this obstacle was overcome. The tea towel has been verified by the Guinness Book of Records, as the world’s largest tea towel.  
Based on the Guinness World Record tea towel, Poplar Linens have developed a recipe version of the tea towel for sale as a fundraiser. Neven Maguire kindly donated one of his treasured recipes for a wheaten bread. These tea towels will be available in local retail outlets for €4. All profits from the sale of these tea towels are going to support local palliative care services in the Mayo Roscommon area.
