THE investigation into a rave which took place outside Castlebar last month is ongoing and it is hoped prosecutions will be secured in future.
Thats was according to Castlebar Superintendent Joe McKenna speaking at a Castlebar Municipal District meeting last week.
Supt McKenna explained to councillors that the issues surrounding the ‘event’ were ‘complex’ and in essence what took place was ‘unlicensed dancing’.
Gardaí in Castlebar became aware of the planned rave at Kilkenny Cross at approximately 8.15pm on the Friday evening before the planned 2am event which had been organised online.
Supt McKenna told the meeting that there were no drugs detected at the event but drugs were confiscated from people going to the event.
“There was never a guard not present. If residents in an area see something suspicious like a marquee being erected they should contact us. If we have private knowledge, we can be ahead of the posse,” said Supt McKenna.
“The key thing is intelligence,” noted Chief Supt Diskin.
Fianna FΡil councillor Blackie Gavin told the meeting that the gardaí had the full support of the Castlebar councillors and added that bye-laws could be brought in to help gardaí.
