THERE will be some tickets on sale of the day of Mayo’s Connacht Championship opener against London, but entry to the grounds in Ruislip is ‘not guaranteed’ on May 29.
“Tickets allocated for online sale and general sale from the GAA Offices have sold,” London GAA Board Secretary Mark Gottsche told The Mayo News by email yesterday (Monday). “Currently we are distributing an allocation of tickets to our clubs in London … We also realise that some people will arrive on the day without tickets and we have retained an allocation of tickets to allow for this. However, entry to the grounds is not guaranteed as with every county ground we are limited to a capacity.
“The Connacht Championship game generates huge interest from the Irish community and second- and third-generation Irish in London and throughout Britain. Mayo have a passionate and loyal supporters’ base which natural[ly] means there will be big interest in the game, particularly for Mayo people living in London.”
One follow-up query regarding whether or where Mayo fans currently without tickets would be able to get them in advance of the game, and another surrounding the likelihood and size of any ticket allocation for Mayo GAA Board, were not answered by the time of going to print.
