THE recent Newport Friends First Fashion Show was a huge success, raising €3,300 for worthy local causes. The second annual fundraiser was held in aid of First Friends Playschool, the Cuan Modh Day Centre and for the renovations to Newport Parochial Hall, and was packed to capacity in Hotel Newport.
Shops from Westport, Castlebar and Newport that displayed their wares were Patricia’s Fashions; Corcorcan’s Drapery; The Parade Café; Lisa Ryder Handbag Designs; Rita Mylett – Attire Shapewear; The Mall Boutique; Carraig Donn Fashions; Guna Nua; Collette Boutique; Pat Bree Menswear; Unit 7 and Josephine’s Knitwear. There was plenty of models from the community to display the fashions, and the Chairperson of the organising committee, Caroline McManamon, paid tribute to them all for giving generously of their time. Hair and make-up was by Barbara Murray; Hair & Sirs; Lorraine Ryder, Newport Hair Salon; Sharon McGovern, Bridge House Beauty Salon; Talking Heads at The Castlecourt Hotel; Peter Mark’s Hair Salon; Boots Pharmacy who provided No 7 make-up; Vanilla, Castlebar; Glow, Castlebar and Hayley Coleman, make-up artist.
In her speech, Caroline McManamon was very grateful to all who lent their support to the event.
“This night would not have been possible without the generous support of our community and the commitment of the organising committee,” she began. ”I would also like to thank all our models here tonight both male and female, as it takes great courage for those that are not used of this, and I would also with to thank all our local businesses in both Newport, Newfield, Mulranny, Westport and Castlebar for their support.
“I would like to thank the management and staff of Hotel Newport who provided us with the venue for this fundraiser. They have been of great help to us in ensuring that this event was successful. I would also like to thank Fiona Hopkins for promoting and advertising this event on social media and couldn’t let the night end without thanking our fantastic MC Kenneth Kelly, for getting the show on the road and keeping everything on track.”
