MAYO’S Garda boss, Chief Superintendent Pat Diskin has confirmed they made a drug seizure along with two firearms and a large quantity of cash were recovered in a Castlebar raid.
The operation was led by local gardaí and supported by armed members of the force’s regional response unit took place on Wednesday morning at Moneen, Castlebar. Two firearms were recovered in the search of the property along with drugs believed to be cannabis and a large quantity of cash.
The Mayo News understands that the value of the drugs is in four figures while the cash seized was in five figures.
In addressing members of Mayo County Council yesterday, Chief Supt Diskin confirmed the drugs seizure.
A man in his 20s was arrested and held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. He was later released without charge and a file was sent forward to the DPP, the gardaí confirmed.
