TWO Mayo people got 2016 off to the perfect start when claiming five figures sums in National Lottery wins. Peggy Reddington from Keelogues, Ballyvary, Castlebar won €40,000, including a holiday to Rome, on last Saturday’s National Lottery Winning Streak game show on RTÉ.
Peggy’s son Michael played the game on her behalf after she got three stars from the ticket which she bought in Mellett’s Newsagents in Swinford.
Meanwhile in Louisburgh, local butcher Colm Clarke might feel like his Christmas’s all came at once when after his busiest time of the year, he was able to collect €20,000 he won on a National Lottery scratchcard. Colm won the tidy sum on December 18 when he scratched a All Cash Extravaganza card which he purchased in McGreevey’s Newsagents in Westport.
However, due to him being so busy over the Christmas period, he didn’t have time to collect the winnings until the New Year.
Well known owner of McGreevey’s, Don, said he was delighted for Mr Clarke and his fiancée, as they had just bought a house and are due to get married later this year.
“It’s a lovely way for a young couple to start out the New Year and in fairness to Colm, he called into the shop and was more than generous to our staff member who sold him the winning ticket,” said Don.
