THE Cathaoirleach of Ballina Municipal District, Cllr Gerry Ginty, said he felt honoured to wear the newly commissioned chain of office at last week’s Ballina Municipal District meeting. A chain of office was commissioned following the unanimous agreement by the eight councillors that the Cathaoirleach should be recognisable at official events.
Cllr Ginty said he was honoured to wear the chain and described it as ‘very nice’ and ‘not over elaborate’. Cllr Ginty thanked Carmel Murphy, Administrative Officer of Ballina Municipal District and senior executive officer Paul Benson.
Last year’s cathaoirleach Cllr Seamus Weir welcomed the chain and said a picture of each future cathaoirleach should now join former town councillors on the wall of the former town council chamber.
