BALLINROBE Musical Society embraced the Halloween atmosphere last week by launching their 2016 production ‘The Addams Family’.
Cast and crew gathered to officially launch the show which tells the story of the hilariously ghoulish American family with an affinity for all things macabre.
A relatively new show, ‘The Addams Family’ was an instant hit on Broadway, only being outsold by ‘Phantom of the Opera’ and ‘The Lion King’.
The talented cast, including Michael Coen as Gomez, Niall Conway as Lurch and Siobhan Campbell as Alice, will take the stage from February 14 to February 20 next.
Family friendly
Speaking at the recent launch, society chairman Des Treacy said the society had listened to the phenomenal feedback from audiences following this year’s show ‘All Shook Up’ and decided to go for another comedy.
“It will be a great show, a very family friendly show for all ages. It’s a very new show that has sold out everywhere it has been staged,” said the chairman.
He outlined that the Ballinrobe society would be just one of two societies staging the comedy next year, with the other being in Belfast.
With music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, the show is a side splittingly funny show that brings the audience on a roller coaster of events.
Liam Butler (Co-Director), Aoife McClafferty (Co-Director and Choreographer), Finola Higgins (Musical Director) and John O’Shea (Stage Manager) have come together to wow audiences next year.
Excited to be back
Musical Director Finola Higgins is excited to be back at the helm for the fourth year and said the 2016 show is ‘The perfect choice for Ballinrobe Musical Society.’
“With its ghoulish wit, brilliant comedic one-liners, big clap along songs, bizarre love stories, and also very touching moments, it has everything that will draw from this society’s strengths. The chorus as always, have thrown themselves enthusiastically into rehearsals.”
Returning once again to get the cast into shape, Choreographer Aoife McClafferty is thoroughly looking forward to the 2016 production and taking up the role as co-director.
Comic humour
“The show will be weird and wonderful with fantastic leads at the forefront supported by an equally amazing chorus of ancestors. The show is full of comic humour with explosions of song and dance.’’
Early bird tickets for both the matinee and evening show on February 14 will be available up to a week before the show.
