THE people of Kilmovee Parish and neighbouring areas were deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden death of Daniel Rushe, Leveelick, Kilmovee, in Adelaide, Australia. Daniel (28) took ill suddenly while working alongside colleagues and never regained consciousness.
Daniel was one of a family of six born to Eamon and Monica (nee Kilcoyne from Ballaghaderreen) and he went to work in Australia a few years ago. His younger brother Cormac has also been working in Adelaide since the start of this year.
News of the death of Daniel in faraway Australia has caused much sadness throughout his home area. He was a member of the local Kilmovee Shamrocks Club and played at various graded for them over the years.
Peter Costello from Glann, Kilkelly, was among those who coached him through the underage grades. “Danny was eager and committed and very loyal to the club. He had a nice way about him and was very well liked in local GAA circles.
“He stayed with my own son Kevin and others in Adelaide for around five years. They were working together around 8.20am when he took the turn while on the machine. All his colleagues are devastated with the passing of Danny.
“Kevin and Danny arrived home from Australia last Christmas and I collected them at Dublin Airport. Monica and Eamon did not realise Danny was making the trip home and got such a surprise when we dropped him at their home. Our hearts go out to all the Rushe family and friends at this very sad time,” says Peter.
Daniel, along with Darragh Doherty (19) from Kilmaine, who died in a road accident near Ballinrobe in recent days, were among those remembered on the big screen at Croke Park at the All-Ireland semi-final between Mayo and Dublin last Sunday.
Daniel will repose at the family home on Wednesday (September 2) from 3pm until 8pm. (House private thereafter). Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kilmovee, on Thursday at 12 noon followed by interment in Naomh Mobhí Cemetery.
He is deeply mourned by his heartbroken parents Eamon and Monica, brothers Karol and Cormac, sisters Nicola, Edwina and Avril, brother-in-law Brian, sister-in-law Michelle, uncles, aunts, niece Caragh, relatives, neighbours and friends.
