Beverley Flynn’s tempestuous relationship with Fianna Fáil is likely to be settled by the end of October.
Late October likely date for Flynn re-entry
Michael Duffy
BEVERLEY Flynn’s tempestuous relationship with the Fianna Fáil party is likely to reach a settled state before the end of the month, as it now looks likely that her re-entry to the party will be ratified at a National Executive meeting on October 25. The way was cleared yesterday (Monday) morning for talks to begin between the local Fianna Fáil organisation and General Secretary, Sean Dorgan, when bankruptcy proceedings taken by RTÉ against Ms Flynn were struck out at the High Court. The proceedings arose from Ms Flynn's failed libel action against RTÉ and Charlie Bird. Sources close to Ms Flynn (right) also confirmed that talks would take place with Mr Dorgan about the setting up of another cumann in the Castlebar area to replace the Micheál Ó Móráin cumann which was disbanded by headquarters in 2004. In late August, RTÉ confirmed that it had received €1.225 million from Ms Flynn. The High Court made no order in relation to the costs of the bankruptcy proceedings, which means both sides must pay their own costs. Ms Justice Elizabeth Dunne was told that Ms Flynn's constitutional challenge to the 1992 electoral act, which prevents a bankrupt person from being a member of the Dáil, could also be struck out. It was agreed the State would be awarded costs in the constitutional action. However, these costs are expected to be minimal as the matter never went to hearing.
