Fianna Fáil are expected to to formally propose Beverley Flynn’s return to the party next month.

THE Dáil resumes tomorrow (Wednesday) and while Beverley Flynn will be taking her seat with the other four ‘independent’ deputies, it is expected that Fianna Fáil will make a move in late October to formally propose her return to the party. The bankruptcy proceedings initiated by RTÉ will be struck out at a court hearing on October 8 and with that final barrier cleared it seems likely the national executive will waste no more time in getting the matter finalised once and for all. “There are still certain matters to be resolved here locally but once that final court hearing is over and done with, it is expected that HQ will begin the process. The national executive made its decision in 2004 to expel her so it is expected they will look to iron out any problems on the ground here locally,” said a source close to Beverley Flynn (right). Meanwhile, the star of Mayo’s only Government TD Dara Calleary continues to rise. The Ballina man was picked in the Sunday Tribune as one of the ‘Significant Seven - new kids to watch in the Dáil and the Seanad’. “The next leadership regime in Fianna Fáil will want to promote newer, younger faces so Calleary should benefit, notwithstanding the imminent return of fellow Mayo TD Beverley Flynn to the Fianna Fáil fold. He has astutely handled the Flynn affair with several measured contributions. With the right breaks, he is a future cabinet member, and as the west of Ireland is underrepresented in Fianna Fáil's senior team, elevation may come earlier than expected,” stated the Tribune, which also praised Claremorris-born Dublin South East TD Lucinda Creighton, stating that despite missing out on a place in the shadow cabinet, ‘she will still have a plethora of opportunities to carve out a niche as a national politician, most likely on European and legal matters’.
