Baxter Healthcare in Castlebar plan to release up to 100 temporary workers after decrease in demand for product

Baxter confirm that temporary jobs are to go

BAXTER Healthcare are to let go up to 100 workers in their Castlebar plant as their temporary contracts come to an end.
The American pharmaceutical giant confirmed the temporary staff who were brought in last year to cater for increased demand are to be let go. The workers were taken on last year when an old machine was brought back in use to cater for an increased demand for the products produced in the Castlebar plant.
The temporary staff will not have their contracts renewed and this machine will no longer be used as ‘demand levels have normalised to previous production levels’.
“Over the past year Baxter had the need to temporarily increase production on a small number of product lines within the Castlebar manufacturing site due to increased demand. Fixed-term contract employees were hired to meet the temporary increased demand.
“Demand levels have normalised to previous production levels. Accordingly, we are returning to original staffing levels and a number of fixed term contracts will be ended. Relevant employees are being engaged with directly and we would like to thank them all for their valuable contribution to the organisation,” Baxter said in a statement.
The company have been in Mayo since 1972 and employ over 1,000 people in their manufacturing facilities in Castlebar and Swinford. The Castlebar plant concentrates on the manufacture of renal dialysis solutions, pre-mixed intravenous solutions and a range of drug products, and the markets served include the UK, mainland Europe, the US and Asia.
