Kilmovee teacher survives Nepal earthquake

A young Kilmovee teacher on a year’s voluntary work in Nepal experienced the full horrors of the recent earthquake as buildings tumbled around her.
Elaine Kenny took a year out from the teaching staff at Cloonfad NS to pursue voluntary work in Nepal, assisting young people and lending compassionate support to the community to which she was assigned along with other volunteers.
“Buildings around her were flattened by the devastating earthquake,” said her aunt, Sheila Joyce in Tooreen. “She was very fortunate to escape without injuries. David Clarke from Ballaghaderreen is also out in the same place, assisting with the same cause and voluntary work. He too was uninjured in the quake.”
Sheila and her husband John and friends have organised a fund-raising day in Tooreen on next Saturday, May 23, in support of the Nepal Earthquake Fund. It will be held all day from 10am through until 10pm in Tooreen Hall. Several novelty ventures have also been arranged to entertain the young folk. All support will be most welcome.
