Artisan Castlebar Food and Music Festival shelved

THE organisers of an ambitious music and food festival for Castlebar have said it is ‘with regret’ they have had to cancel the event. 

The Artisan Castlebar Food and Music Festival was due to take place on Saturday, May 30 but organisers announced on Facebook that ‘we have to announce due to unforeseen circumstances that we have to cancel this year’s Artisan Castlebar Food and Music Festival’. 

“We ran into difficulties that were insurmountable to overcome and we could not deliver the festival that the town deserved. We would like to thank Mayo County Council, Order of Malta, Castlebar town councillors, Gardaí Siochana and many more for the support offered to the festival. We are going to go back to the drawing board and hopeful in the future be able to provide a festival that the town of Castlebar can be proud of,” said the statement.

Any tickets purchased can be refunded from Downtown Records and entertainment.ie will be automatically refunding tickets.

Organisers are going ahead with a Damien Dempsey concert for the same date in Swinford so any tickets bought in Downtown Records are valid for this gig.

Dempsey and his full band were due to play at the town’s Military Barracks on Saturday, May 30. 

Two outdoor stages were to be the centerpiece of the event, with live music and live cooking demonstrations all shown on a big screen, and a separate acoustic stage showcasing the best in local talent. Other acts to play on the day include Tucan, The Young Folk and local band The New Social.     

The event was also to host up to 50 local artisan food, drink and craft stalls.
