Positive meeting on Ballinrobe Town Hall

A MEETING to discuss the construction of a new town hall in Ballinrobe was described as ‘productive’ by town hall committee chairman Michael Sweeney.
Last Wednesday, the committee gathered to view plans for a new town hall proposed for a site on The Neale road in the town, near the hall’s former site.
Mr Sweeney told The Mayo News the meeting was ‘more about listening than talking’ as Norita Clesham Enterprise and Community Development Officer with South West Mayo Development Company explained what type of funding would be required for such a project.
Local architect Donal McCormack was also at the meeting and presented plans of a proposed hall to the committee.
“There was a lot of progress and now we need to set up a company, look at ownership of the site and meet with the county manager,” said Mr Sweeney.
It is expected that a meeting with Mayo County Council County Manager Peter Hynes will take place before the end of October, in order to update the council of the proposed plans. It is hoped that in time, plans for the building will then be presented to the public and planning will be applied for.
Anyone interested in actively participating on this major project should contact Michael Sweeney 087 2588 615 or SiobhΡn O’Malley on 087 207 2307.
