Special appearance at Ballinrobe wedding
A BALLINROBE bride was left stunned at the altar on Friday last, but for all the right reasons as her dreams came true when she was serenaded by singer/songwriter Mickey Joe Harte.
The Donegal man, who is most known for his representation in the 2003 Eurovision contest, surprised Orla Kavanagh who married Paul Tiernan in St Mary’s Church on Friday, just before the happy couple walked down the aisle.
Speaking to The Mayo News yesterday Orla said she was ‘stunned’ by his appearance on her big day.
Orla’s friends Emma Gill and Joyce Costello organised the surprise for their friend after years of knowing her love of Harte’s song ‘We’ve Got the World’.
The bride listened to the song as she made her way to the Church, unsuspecting that she would hear her favourite song live after she tied the knot.
“I always used to annoy DJ’s heads to put it on and Paul had it on a CD especially for the car on the way to the Church,” she explained.
The big surprise was helped to be kept under wraps by junior bridesmaid and niece of the bride, Katie O’Regan. She met the artist in the hallway at the back of the Church during the Mass but when told to keep the surprise a secret, the shrewd nine year old said ‘my lips are sealed’.
Harte serenaded the couple with an acoustic version of Elvis Presley’s ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ before launching into ‘We’ve Got the World’, much to the delight of the bride.
“It was just unreal, I’ll never forget it,’ Orla enthused.
This wasn’t the first notable feature of the couple’s wedding, as their GAA-themed invites went viral online last month.
