Castlebar band sing for charity

CASTLEBAR band ‘The New Social’ will launch their single ‘I Always Will’ on August 1 with all proceeds going to the Irish Cancer Society.
The group formed last December and is made up of Niall Fahey on vocals, Darren Moran on guitar, Michael McDermott on bass and drummer Cathal Ward.
Speaking to The Mayo News ahead of the song’s release, Michael McDermott said they decided to release the song for the Irish Cancer Society after recording it, and two other original songs at the famous Grouse Lodge recording studio in Westmeath.
Michael said they chose the Irish Cancer Society as the bass player participates in fundraising for the society every year by participating in their nationwide campaign ‘Shave or Die’.
“It’s something I always like to support...We decided on ‘I Always Will’ as we felt it was the best song out of the three and when we approached the Irish Cancer Society they were delighted and loved the song,” said McDermott.
Asked about the band’s hopes for the song’s success, McDermott said it would be ‘good on both sides’ as the more downloads the song gets, the more money is raised for the charity and also, the possibility of the song making it into the charts.
The band have played the song at various gigs since they wrote it, and the feedback has been very positive.
“We sometimes like to finish on that song. Everyone seems to enjoy it, it’s a nice summery tune and seems to go down well,” said Mr McDermott.
Currently, the Castlebar-based musicians are busying themselves gigging at least twice a week at venues in Mayo, Galway and Limerick.
The song will be available to download on August 1 from iTunes, Google Play and Amazon MP3 with all proceeds to the Irish Cancer Society.
