NEWLY-ordained priest Rev SeΡn Flynn celebrated his first mass in Castlebar Church yesterday (Monday). A native of Carrowkeel, Turlough in Keelogues  Parish, Rev Flynn was ordained in The Church of the Most Holy Rosary, Castlebar on Sunday.
Archbishop Michael Neary warmly welcomed Rev SeΡn to the Tuam Presbyterate. Tuam Archdiocese has two other students studying for the priesthood and a number have applied to go for the diocese for autumn this year.
In his homily, Archbishop Neary said so many people had been part of SeΡn’s formation, including family, neighbours, teachers, the local Church, staff and colleagues in Maynooth and priests of the Archdiocese of Tuam.
“We gather today to give thanks to God for the call which has been extended to SeΡn, for his very generous ‘yes’ to that call and for the way in which so many people here in the congregation and elsewhere have enabled him to discern that it was God who was calling,” said the Archbishop.
The Archbishop said priests today must be ‘an agent of hope in what often might seem a hopeless situation’.
“Today, I ask for the supportive prayers of all present here today for SeΡn and indeed all priests as we endeavour to live our vocation.”
Rev Flynn went to school in Parke, worked for a number of years in the catering, and undertaking business in Castlebar before beginning his studies for the priesthood. He studied in Valladolid, Spain for one year before going to St Patrick’s College, Maynooth to study theology and philosophy.
Rev Flynn will celebrate Mass on Wednesday, June 11 in Parke Church at 7.30pm and on Friday, June 13 at Keelogues Church.
