Pool event for Breaffy

THE Irish Pool Association are delighted to be taking their tour to Breaffy House Hotel next weekend. The event is an amalgamation of the final men’s ranking tournament of the season and the junior and under-15 inter-county team championships, as well as the under-15, under-18 and under-21 Irish singles titles.
The Irish Pool Tour consists of seven events that are held in various hotels throughout the country. This is the first time in a number of years that the tour has come to Mayo, but with the game growing rapidly here, expectations are high that this year’s event will be a great success.
Over 160 competitors are expected to participate in the men’s singles event, with over 70 under-18 players in the Irish Junior Singles Championships, which is a new record for the Irish Pool Association. There are over 40 players in the under-15 event and over 40 in the under-21 event so it promises to be a great weekend of pool. Ten teams will contest the junior (under-18) inter-county team event, while eight teams will take part at under-15 level.
“It’s great to be going to Mayo again after all these years,” said Conor O’Boyle, chairman of the Irish Pool Association. “The venue and quality of competition are of an incredibly high standard and this event promises to be one of the best that we have ever run ... A lot of work has gone into making this a success, and I would strongly urge all local players and fans to come along – it’ll be a great experience”.
The event starts on Friday at 8pm in the Breaffy House Sports Arena where 24 World Championship pool tables will be set up. The Under-15, Under-18 and Under-21 Irish Championship Singles all start on Friday night as well as the final men’s ranking event of the year. The tournament runs all day Saturday and Sunday, with the finals scheduled to be played on Sunday evening. Saturday night will see the final of the last ranking event between local man Declan Hough and Dubliner David Kelly.
