Mother who stole video games ordered to repay shop

A Castlebar mother who stole five video games has been given until February 5 to pay back the value of the games

Castlebar mother given six weeks to pay €265 cost of stolen video games

A Castlebar mother who stole five video games worth €264.95 has been given until February 5 to pay back the value of the games.
Bridget Ward (41) of 5, Chesnut Grove, Castlebar appeared before Castlebar District Court on Wednesday charged with the theft of five video games from Tesco, Castlebar on April 24 last.
The court heard Ms Ward was fully co-operative when questioned by gardaí. Inspector Damian Ó Flannagain told the court Ward has 16 previous convictions, nine of which are for theft.
Defence solicitor James Ward said his client has 11 children and asked Judge Mary Devins to consider an early guilty plea and asked for a chance for the full amount to be paid back. He added Ms Ward’s ‘appalling record speaks for itself’.
Judge Devins asked Bridget Ward why she had not come up with the money on the day of court. She adjourned the matter to later in the day and said Ward had to come up with some money if she was to consider adjourning the matter.
Ward gave €100 to the court in the afternoon and the matter was adjourned to February 5 for the balance to be paid.
