Ballinrobe’s broadband infrastructure is to be fully upgraded by early 2014
Broadband upgrade for Ballinrobe

THE upgrading of Ballinrobe’s new enhanced broadband infrastructure is set to be completed by early next year. Local Fine Gael councillor Michael Burke told The Mayo News that cabling and ducting is taking place in the town and will continue in the coming weeks but would not require digging in the town.
Three fibre optic cabling cabinets will be installed in the centre of the town, in Cornmarket, on the Castlebar road, and on the Claremorris road.
According to Cllr Burke it is hoped the “expensive venture” will then be extended into the country and more rural areas in the coming two years. Eircom is the sponsoring body of the upgrade.
The councillor says extensive work has been under way in the town for the past two weeks and Eircom has confirmed to him that the new system will be in place in early 2014.
Meanwhile, Shrule Village Enhancement Scheme is to receive LEADER funding which will allow improvements to restart in the village. Cllr Burke said it was welcome news for the people of Shrule after a “long ongoing saga”.
