Man charged with the alleged theft of up to €10,500 worth of goods from a Ballinrobe jewellers
Suspected Ballinrobe jewellery thief charged
A man who allegedly robbed jewellery to the value of €10,500 from a Ballinrobe jewellery shop appeared before Ballina District Court last Tuesday charged with the theft.
James O’Connor of 33 Hessa Rd, Hayes, Middlesex, London, allegedly entered Sarah Jane Jewellers on Main Street, Ballinrobe at approximately 1.40pm last Tuesday and robbed up to €10,500 of jewellery.
He was arrested at Glendale, Mayfield, Claremorris at 2.15pm after gardaí stopped the car he was travelling in with two others. He was detained at Claremorris Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Mr O’Connor, who the court heard had only been in Ireland a number of days, was charged at 12.22am on Tuesday morning. He made no reply after caution.
Mr O’Connor appeared in court accompanied by his aunt and was remanded in custody to appear at Harristown District Court last Friday for DPP directions. The court was informed that the possibility of further more serious charges is expected.
A file is being prepared for the DPP.
