The family of missing Killala woman, Sandra Collins have appealed for anyone with information into her disappearance to come forward, 12 years after the 28-year-old was reported missing.
Today (Tuesday) is the 12th anniversary of the disappearance of Sandra Collins who went missing on the night of Monday, December 4, 2000 in Killala after she failed to return from a shopping trip. She was last seen at 11pm when she was served in a local fast food restaurant buying two bags of chips.
The family of Ms Collins believe that there are people in Killala who are aware of what happened to Sandra and have appealed for them to provide information to bring some closure to their lives.
On Friday, December 14, Sandra would have been 41 years old and her brother Patrick said the family wanted to be able to end their nightmare and say goodbye to their sister.
“We feel there are people in Killala who know something and we would beg them to to look into their heart and soul and come forward. We would ask them to put themselves in our shoes.… 12 years is a long time not to know where your sister is and what happened to her,” he said.
Gardaí investigating her disappearance presume she has been murdered and believe people in the north Mayo area have information which may lead to finding her. On the 10th anniversary of her disappearance a similar programme was aired which led to fresh information.
In March 2011, a number of people were arrested in connection with her disappearance and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
Patrick explained that the family will find it hard to face another year without knowing what happened to his sister.
“Sandra was a kind decent person and there is not a time when we go to a funeral that we don’t think of Sandra and wish we could give her a decent send off. All we need is a phone call or for someone to tell a priest where we can find her. We can’t face 2013 and not know where she is,” he concluded.
