LESS than 24 hours after winning a Mayo senior hurling medal with Ballyhaunis, star forward Christy McCrudden was in the Beaumont Hospital in Dublin last week battling for his life. The popular hurler was injured in a fall at his place of residence in the town on Sunday night, October 7, and has been unconscious since.
Shocked colleagues learned of Christy’s situation the following day and the goodwill of the community has been with him and his family through these difficult days. He underwent surgery in the hospital on Wednesday and the despair of the first three days has now been replaced with some optimism over the weekend.
JP Coen, manager of the senior team, says they are all hoping that Christy will pull through. “He has been in a coma since he was found last Monday in the house. They are going to attempt to bring him out of the coma today (Tuesday).  If that goes well, he may be fully out of the coma by Wednesday and they will assess the situation at that stage.
“Hopefully, all going well, Christy will be on the road to recovery. A few of us are planning to go to Dublin to see him later in the week.
Christy is a great favourite with all the lads and a vital member of our team. Everyone is wishing him well and we look forward to him making a full recovery.”
