Westport journalist Claire Grady (pictured) has been appointed editor of the Evening Herald, the sister newspaper of the Irish Independent and the Sunday Independent.
She previously held the position of executive editor on the Herald and before that was assistant editor.
The Herald is the market leader in Dublin and has shown a strong performance this year, adding sales in a very competitive market-place. The Herald and Independent have a combined daily readership of around 700,000 people.
Claire, who commenced her journalistic career at The Mayo News and The Connaught Telegraph, said she was delighted to take the chair at the Herald.
“It’s the voice of the city” she said.
When she moved to Dublin she became a staff reporter on the “Tallaght Echo”. Following 11 years as a reporter with both the Irish Independent and the Herald, she joined the ‘Sunday Tribune’.
When it ceased publication she returned to INM as assistant news editor with the Irish Independent.
She succeeds Stephen Rae who has been appointed editor of the Irish Independent.
Claire is daughter of Seamus Grady and the late Bridie Grady, Quay Road, Westport and sister of Richard Grady, Quay Road. She is niece of Ms Frances O’Hora, Horkans Hill, Westport.
All at The Mayo News join with her Westport friends in congratulating her on her new appointment and wishing her further success in her career.
