GARDAÍ have named the victim of a car accident which occurred outside Balla last week as Jennifer Davis from Swanton Morley, Norfolk, in England.
Aged 19, Ms Davis died when the car in which she was a front seat passenger collided with another car in the townland of Garhawnagh on the N60 between Balla and Claremorris at 4.40pm on Thursday last.
Her 25-year-old partner, who was driving the car, sustained severe head and leg injuries and is in a critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit at Mayo General Hospital.
The couple’s 22-month-old son was in the rear of the car at the time but was unhurt in the incident.
He is currently in the care of his grandparents who travelled to Mayo after the accident. It is understood the victim’s father returned from active duty in Afghanistan with the British military to accompany his daughter’s remains home.
The driver of the other car is an Irish national who has been living in the United States for many years. She was in the area on holidays at the time and suffered abdominal injuries in the accident which are described as ‘not life-threatening’.
