Invetigation underway after 39 year old dies in Garda car
Deceased was arrested after incident at late bar in Castlebar
AN investigation has been launched by the Garda Ombudsman this morning after a 39-year-old man died while in Garda custody last night (Wednesday) in Castlebar.
The man had been arrested at Cox’s late bar on Linenhall Street in the county town after an incident had taken place some time close to 1am.
Gardaí were called to the well-known night spot and the man was arrested and was being taken to Castlebar Garda Station. However, the man was unresponsive when the Garda car arrived at the station.
Efforts were made to resuscitate the 39 year old, and he was transferred to Mayo General Hospital, but pronounced dead a short time later.
Investigators are continuing an examination of the arrest scene and are also appealing for witnesses to contact 1890 600 800.
