CAMPAIGNERS have praised Junior Minister Michael Ring for ‘all his hard work’ in helping to secure the appointment of a new Director of Nursing to the MacBride Community Nursing Unit in Westport. The new director, whose identity has not been officially announced, is due to start work this week. Speaking to The Mayo News yesterday, campaigner Michael Dever said: “We really want to thank the minister for all his hard work in securing this position. Now, as a community, we must continue to endeavour to provide world-class care for our elderly.” Welcoming the news, Michael Ring said: “The full time position has been filled and the new Director of Nursing will take up the post this week. The appointment has been put in place to meet HIQA requirements.” He continued: “This is great news for the MacBride Community Nursing Unit and I wish the new Director of Nursing every success in their position. I also want to compliment the staff on the excellent work that they do in the MacBride Home.”
